AWPI Director John Birch steps down from board

Long standing Australian Water Polo Incorporated Director John Birch has stepped down from his post after more than ten years in office.

Fellow Queenslander and 2008 Olympic Games bronze medallist Amy Hetzel will replace Birch on the AWPI Board.

Hetzel was formerly a Board Appointed Director but the television journalist and producer has now been appointed by the Board to fill the casual vacancy caused by Birch's resignation.

AWPI President Peter Kerr paid tribute to Birch for his tireless effort over more than a decade.

“John was an extremely valuable and balanced AWPI Director for more than ten years and his unstinting service will be missed by all,” Kerr said.

“John is at a stage where his work causes him to travel overseas often so is standing down.

“The Board is delighted to announce Amy Hetzel as John’s replacement and we look forward to working with her.”

Hetzel will travel to Shanghai later this month for the FINA World Championships as the AWPI Board representative.
