Former Australian Olympic water polo team captain Peter Bennett passed away on the Gold Coast earlier this morning from a terminal illness. He was aged 86.

Bennett, who represented Australia at both the 1952 and 1956 Olympic Games, was earlier this year inducted into the Australian Water Polo Hall of Fame.

A revered all-round sportsman, Bennett played Interstate AFL (VFL), was a surf champion at Torquay and an accomplished golfer at Kingston Heath.

As a full forward he topped St Kilda's goal kicking list five times, with a best of 59 goals in 1950.

Here is a snap shot of Peter's water polo achievements.
