10.08.2012
Game 3: Australia vs. Germany
The Australian Born ’93 junior men’s team have produced an improved display to narrowly go down 8-6 to Germany in their final game of the Hamburg Cup.
The Australians defended well in the first quarter to keep their opponents scoreless, before the powerful Germans netted four goal to nil to build a healthy advantage.
The second half was the Australians’ best of the tour, converting numerous attacking opportunities to outscore the Germans 6-3.
Dan Egan continued his great tournament maintaining his unbeaten record in the swim offs and creating swift counter attacking movements, while Lachlan Edwards and Fraser Smith were again strong at centre forward.
Keeper Anthony Hrysanthos was reward for his great performance being named the goalkeeper of the tournament.
“I’m very happy that the boys responded under pressure to outscore the Germans in the second half,” coach Duncan Greenbank said after the game.
“I felt today we were showing glimpses of the type of form this team can produce. Goals were finally appearing on the board against our name which is always a good sign.
“We’re now looking forward to having another hit out against the big guns in Syros next week”
The team now travels to Syros, Greece for the Vikelas Cup against Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Serbia and Greece.

Game 2: Australia v Turkey
The Australian Born ’93 junior men’s team has won their second match of the Hamburg Cup downing Turkey 8-7.
The contest was tight the whole game with Australia only pulling away in the closing stages.
Callum Smith led the way in attack scoring two goals, while Gabriel Addley made eight stunning saves.
Although pleased with the result, coach Duncan Greenbank said the team still needed a lot improvement if they were to compete with the bigger nations.
“It’s difficult to appraise our performance with such inconsistency in most aspects of the game, however, a win is a win and we are creating many opportunities to score,” Greenbank said.
“Our shooting skills must improve if we are to challenge the better teams, but I know they have it in them.”
Their next game is against Germany tomorrow.

Game 1: Australia v Slovakia
The Australian Born ’93 junior men’s team has gone down to Slovakia 8-12 in their opening game of the Hamburg Cup.
The Australian’s were able to stick with Slovakia for most of the first half before an eight goal run blew open the game.
Captain George Ford netted a hat trick, while keeper Anthony Hrysanthos made eight saves.
Coach Duncan Greenbank was disappointed with the numerous turnovers conceded by his team and the lack of composure shown in attack.
“It’s difficult to win games when the team misses three one on one’s and converts one of six extra man opportunities,” Greenbank said.
“We’ll now have to focus on our shooting during training tomorrow and hopefully it will improve by the end of the tour.”
Australia will also face Germany and Turkey at the Hamburg Cup.
