New coach creates perfect storm for the Hurricanes
The Hunter Hurricanes National League Water Polo Club are excited to announce the capture of Australian water polo great Daniel Marsden as coach for the upcoming season.
Along with his wife and young family, Marsden brings with him a wealth of experience having played 408 international matches for the Australian's men's team, including captaining the side for the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.
Marsden and his wife are no strangers to the region having grown up in Sydney and Branxton, respectively, so moving from Brisbane was not only a chance for Marsden to expand his coaching horizons but also to be closer to family.
Marsden identifies the Hunter region as a growth hub for the sport with great potential for improvement.
"This region has a big catchment area for development and provides an environment that I want to be a part of, I believe the Hunter Hurricanes can benefit greatly from the coaching philosophy and programs I plan to implement," Marsden said.
Marsden has big plans for the team's National Water Polo League campaign too.
"The 'Canes are a top six team, but to date have never achieved this," Marsden said.
"I know together we can become serious National League title contenders.”
Marsden recently met with his new players this weekend at club sponsor the Beauford Hotel in Mayfield, before being an official guest at the Hunter Academy of Sport Presentation Night.
"The appointment of a coach of Daniel’s calibre is a major coup for water polo in the Hunter as he will enhance the development and retention of local talent while also helping to raise the profile of the sport within the community," said Hunter Hurricanes and Hunter Academy Chair Ken Clifford.
