KFC Breakers blood for the future

The KFC Breakers have taken the opportunity to blood for the future now that their spot in the top six of the National Water Polo League is all but secured.

Fifteen year old Jaimes ‘Spider’ Arbon was handed the goalkeeping duties in the absence of legendary goalie Raf Sterk who was out of town for the weekend.

Playing against the Victorian Tigers was never going to be an easy task for the debutant but his first two saves were cheered on by the local crowd. A tally of 12 saves for the game against some of the most powerful shooters in the league left the fifteen-year-old beaming with confidence.

Having played against one of his heroes in Sam Mc Gregor will leave a lasting memory for Jaimes.

The Breakers coach Duncan Greenbank said, “I was fortunate enough to have been secured a finals berth which allowed me to confidently give some of the juniors in the Breakers squad an opportunity. Jaimes  Arborn and Oli Chambers were given a role to do in the team tonight and did so amicably. It’s a positive for the future planning process of our club to see some of the understudies getting a run in the National League."

"We now set our focus preparing for finals having finished our round games. There is still a lot to work on as a team but with the draw being the way it is, it allows us to have a couple of weeks to work on aspects of our game that may have let us down throughout the season and we can hit the finals refreshed and confident as I feel any team in the top six is in with a chance.”
