2008 14 & Under Club Championships
Sydney (March 25).— Cronulla collected both national 14 years and under water polo crowns on offer in Sydney today.
The Cronulla girls retained their title with a 3-2 margin over 2006 winner Drummoyne while Cronulla boys beat Perth’s City Beach All Stars 6-5 for the boys’ gold medal.
Brisbane Barracudas collected the boys’ bronze medal with a 7-3 defeat of Sydney Northern Beaches while the Northern Beaches took home the girls’ bronze medal with a 7-4 victory over 2004 winner Melville, from Perth.
The awards were heavily in favour of the powerful Cronulla club with Maddie Schmid claiming both the highest goal-scorer and player-of-the-series trophies while the leading player in the boys’ section was Cronulla’s Michael May.
Newcastle sharp-shooter Gordon Marshall, with an incredible 34 goals, was easily the boys’ highest goal-scorer.
