The Sharks thrashed Sydney’s Cronulla Black boys 16-4 for the gold medal at the national 16 years and under club championships at the Valley Pool in Brisbane.
They denied Cronulla a golden double after the Cronulla girls took home the title.
Melville had the game sewn up at halftime, leading 7-1 after only giving up a penalty goal.
The margin was 13-1 at the third break with Cronulla gaining some consolation goals in the final period. Jayden Smith led the Melville scorers with three goals.
The University of New South Wales Wests Magpies grabbed bronze with a solid 14-7 defeat of Adelaide Jets.
Maddie Schmid proved her future international credentials with another blazing run in the girls’ gold-medal final.
She scored five goals in the semifinal and backed up with six goals for Cronulla White in its 11-5 victory over fellow New South Wales club Sydney Northern Beaches.
Western Australia’s Dolphins White, who lost out to Cronulla in the semifinals, beat Sydney’s Drummoyne 11-8 for bronze with Matil Connor netting five of Dolphins’ goals.

Brisbane (October 3).—
Sydney’s Cronulla club will be gunning for two gold medals at the finals of the national 16 years and under club championships at the Valley Pool in Brisbane tomorrow.
The Cronulla boys’ team needed extra time to beat Adelaide Jets 9-7 in
the semifinals and will face Perth’s Melville Sharks, who beat the
University of New South Wales Wests Magpies 9-6 in the other semifinal.
Cronulla led 4-1, 5-3 and 6-5 at the breaks and went 7-5 ahead before
Lachlan Cameron with his fourth and Dan Hall with the equaliser at 2:35
remaining to force two periods of extra time.
There was no score in the first period but Nic Brbot scored his third
and Dylan Turner nailed the winner for Cronulla with nearly two minutes
left on the clock.
Melville led 6-3 at halftime but in the final period Reed Cotterill
equalised for the Magpies, making the Perth team lift a notch, scoring
three goals in five minutes.
Cronulla girls, spearheaded by a steamrolling Maddie Schmid with five
goals in the first half, thumped Perth’s Dolphins White 9-5 after
leading 9-3 at the final break.
