Perth (February 3).— Hungarian junior team ZF Eger proved too strong for Western Australia’s best players in an international women’s water polo tournament at the University of Western Australia during the weekend.
The Hungarians beat national league outfit UWA Comets 6-4 in the final
with NWPL champions Fremantle Marlins having to settle for bronze after
downing the WA State 18s team 19-1.
In the final, UWA led 3-1 for much of the second quarter with Eger levelling early in the third period before closing at 4-4.
Eger, with two national team players fresh from the Australian Youth
Olympic Festival, struck twice in just over a minute early in the
fourth to seal the game.
The Comets did well to get to the final, twice beating the four-time champion Marlins on the eve of the league’s start.
Included in the Comets’ line-up for the first time was former junior world champion Gaby Domanic form the United States.
