Sydney (February 3).— New South Welshman Lachlan Hollis, who has just returned from a stint in the Brazilian league, has been included in the national junior men’s (born 1989) water polo squad. Hollis played for Fluminense alongside Aussie Shark Ryan Moody and finished second in the premier league in his first season of overseas club competition. He has been involved in two previous youth and one junior international tour with Australian teams. The eventual team, to be named after a camp following the national league finals series in mid-May, will contest tournaments and training camps in Europe in September. The team would normally contest the FINA world championships but this year the age group was reduced to 18 and under. Head coach Mark Hubbard said the standard of the squad was strong. “The previous years’ development where we catered to a larger number of athletes has meant it’s an incredibly competitive age group. “All of our camps have involved 25-30 players for the past few years so that’s resulted in the high standard group. “However, players will be added or removed based on performances throughout the national league,” Hubbard said.
