Malaga, Spain (July 20).— Australian water polo legend Debbie Watson has been inducted in the International Swimming Hall of Fame here.
In a dinner staged during the European Water Polo
Championships, Debbie was inducted along with some other water polo
people but she was named an Honoree Player.
Debbie, who captained
Australia for a period in the 1990s, became the first woman to be
inducted to ISHOF for water polo. She is twice a World Cup winner (1984
and 1995), a World Championship from Spain in 1986 and an Olympic
champion from 2000.
She remains the only woman to win World Cup, World Championship and Olympic medals.
At
the dinner, supporting her induction were Australian coaches John Fox,
Mark Hubbard and Andrew Yanitsis, who were watching the Championships.
