Sydney (June 20).- The Australian Olympic Committee has released standards for the nomination of officials for water polo for the 2008 Olympic Games.

AUSTRALIAN WATER POLO INC
STANDARDS FOR THE NOMINATION OF OFFICIALS
1. Background
As required under Clause 8.4 of the By-Law, an NF may only nominate to the AOC persons it considers suitable for selection as officials of a Team but in doing so will only nominate those persons it believes:
i) are suitable and qualified to fill the required positions in respect of the section of the Team concerning the sport controlled by the NF;
ii) whose capabilities, skills and experience accord with the requirements of the AOC as advised from time to time; and
iii) who will work efficiently and harmoniously with the Chef de Mission and Assistant Chef de Missions of the relevant Team appointed by the AOC.
NFs must not nominate anyone who cannot fully satisfy the standards of reputation and behaviour required of each member of the Australian Olympic Team as detailed in the Team Membership Agreement – Officials.
2. Positions to be Nominated
2.1 Australian Water Polo Inc will nominate to the AOC persons to undertake the following positions:
Men’s Team:
• Section Manager,
• Head Coach,
• Assistant Coach (2 positions),
• Physiotherapist.
Women’s Team:
• Section Manager,
• Head Coach,
• Assistant Coach (2 positions),
• Physiotherapist.
2.2 The AOC determines the requirements for the Section Manager and medical support positions. Australian Water Polo Inc will nominate a Section Manager and Physiotherapist for each of the Men’s and Women’s Teams in accordance with these requirements. It has been agreed that a doctor from headquarters medical staff will be made available to support the water polo teams.
2.3 The persons undertaking the role of Head Coach (both sections) will be the respective Men’s and Women’s National Team Head Coach of Australian Water Polo Inc. and will be required to:
• be directly responsible for all team activities;
• liaise with the Section Manager on all other aspects of program;
• direct and conduct training sessions;
• provide feedback to the players on tactical and technical aspects of the game;
• monitor and assess player performance, including video analysis;
• monitor and assess opposition teams, including video analysis;
• manage and assess technical analysis for optimal team development and performance; and
• select the team for each game.
2.4 Persons undertaking the role of Assistant Coaches (both sections) will be required to assist the Head Coach with the execution of all tasks outlined in 2.3
3. Nomination of Coaches (and other positions excl. Section Manager & Medical)
3.1 For both Men’s and Women’s sections the Head Coach being nominated will be the current Australian Water Polo Inc’s National Men’s Coach and National Women’s Coach.
3.2 For both Men’s and Women’s sections Assistant Coaches being nominated will currently hold positions with respective Australian Water Polo Inc. National Teams. These coaches will have experience touring with Australian Water Polo Inc. National Teams and will be those who, in the discretion of, Australian Water Polo Inc. best meet the requirements detailed in Section 2.4.
4. Selection of Officials by the AOC
4.1 The selection by the AOC of officials to the Olympic Team will be solely conducted by the AOC in its absolute discretion.
4.2 The final number and type of officials’ positions will be determined by the AOC in its sole and absolute discretion.
4.3 The AOC may advise Australian Water Polo Inc in respect of the Team of the AOC’s determination of the number of officials that may be selected as members of the Team and the positions available to Officials. Any requirements of the AOC concerning officials are guidelines only and are not nomination or selection criteria. The AOC may amend these requirements at any stage, whether generally or specifically to an individual official’s position.
4.4 Australian Water Polo Inc will implement a proper process to identify those officials that it will nominate to the AOC fully satisfying the AOC’s requirements and the standards established by Australian Water Polo Inc to govern the nomination of officials.
4.5 The AOC may select any person as an official of the Team and is not obliged to follow the nominations of Australian Water Polo Inc.
4.6 Selection of each official will be conditional upon him or her signing the applicable Team Membership Agreement for the Team to which the official is selected.
4.7 There is no appeal against any official’s selection or non-selection by the AOC.
