Perth (April 3).— An interview with Aussie Stinger Gemma Beadsworth, following a busy past few months where she has been lauded for her water polo achievements.

beadsworthpenalty.jpgWhat club do you currently play for?
Fremantle Marlins

How old were you when you started playing water polo and what made you take an interest in the game?
I think about 9 when I started playing flippa ball, friends at our swimming club got us to go down to Melville Water polo club.

What’s your highlight to date in water polo?
Probably winning the World Junior Championship last year in Portugal

How many years have you been playing for the AUSSIE STINGERS?
3 years

Explain  your duties as an Olympic torch bearer. How did this come about?
I think the torch relay is on the 24th of April, I carry it for 200m, not sure as to why I was selected, very happy that I was chosen though.

Give us an example of your typical week's training schedule?
Our training schedule varies as we are away quite a bit, generally three gym, two or three swim, and three or four water polo sessions.

You play one of the most physically enduring positions in the modern game. What made you want to be a c/f?
I think because of my size I was automatically put in that position. Playing centre forward allows you to be really involved in the game.

Explain the feeling of playing for the AUSSIE STINGERS?
Great feeling and honour playing with this group of girls

You and your brother are both c/f players in the AUS national teams. Do you compare notes around the dinner table?
Ah no not really, I think we have had enough of talking about water polo by then...

What would your words of inspiration be to up and coming juniors here in Aus?
To be persistent and to listen to all advice that you get.

Who would you rate as the,” best player you have ever played against/with?”
That is a difficult question as there are lot of excellent players in the competition at the moment, probably a Russian player no.4 Sofia Kunuk

How long do you see yourself playing water polo for?
At the moment I’m focusing on the next 5 months, when this Olympic campaign is over I’ll work that out then.

Olympics are not too far away, what’s your preparation schedule like leading up to the Games?
It’s pretty full on, after National League finals we will mostly be away until the Olympics.
