NSW retains 16 and under national crowns Print E-mail
Sydney (October 7).— New South Wales retained their national 16 years and under water polo crowns with convincing wins over Western Australian teams at Ryde Aquatic Centre here today.
The NSW Blues boys downed WA Gold 7-5 after leading 7-2 early in the third period and the NSW Blues girls beat WA Gold 10-6, after being 9-2 ahead at three quarters.
For the boys it was their seventh consecutive crown and for the girls, their eighth in a row.
Queensland Maroon won both bronze medals against NSW Waratahs with an 8-6 margin in the boys’ event and 5-4 in the girls’ encounter.
The standout players came from Western Australian with youthful national league players Zoe Arancini and Aaron Younger collecting the most-valuable-player awards.

NSW in charge at 16 and under nationals
Sydney (October 6).—

New South Wales heads the points tables after round games of the national 16 years and under water polo championships here but other teams are snapping at their heels.Western Australian Gold fell just one point short of NSW Blues in the boys’ section with Queensland Maroon just a further point behind.
The third-ranked Maroons drew with NSW in an exciting week of action with the medal finals on Sunday.
In the girls’ section, NSW Blues finished a point up on Queensland Maroon with a point back to WA Gold, who drew 4-all with Queensland in the final round.
