Brisbane (August 15).— Brisbane Barracudas National Water Polo League men’s team has a new coach in Australia’s most-capped international, Ray Mayers.

The cashed-up Queensland team suffered a mass exodus of senior players last year and battled on with Neil Gynther at the helm in a caretaker role, winning a handful of games at the end of the season.

Club spokesman Lance Johnson said: “We were impressed with the dedication of the juniors last season and look forward to developing them further under Ray and perhaps attracting some senior players.“

”We are here for the long haul and see a great deal of benefit in having the country’s longest-serving player, with four Olympic Games under his belt, train our youngsters.”
