Sydney (August 9).— Former Australian Women's coach Ian Trent has been appointed Coaching Director of the Drummoyne Water Polo Club women's program. Ian will coach the Drummoyne 1st Grade Ladies team and will be assisted by the incumbent womens coach Dave Hudson to prepare a squad for the 2007-08 NSW Water Polo First Division ladies competition. Drummoyne are entering a 1ST Grade ladies team comprising many of the clubs outstanding juniors in the top grade for the first time in the history of the club. “Dave and Allira Gofers have developed a strong program with many the clubs juniors forming the nucleus of the 1st Grade squad. Drummoyne has produced some talented players and I’m looking forward to working with Dave in the clubs initial season in 1st Grade” said Ian Trent. Ian coached the Australian womens team to gold medal wins at the World Championships and World Cup and coached Sydney University 1st grade team to an amazing 21 1st grade premierships including a remarkable 14 consecutive titles.
When asked about his role
Ian said “I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with Drummoyne
developing their womens program and taking it to the next level.
Drummoyne are one of the most progressive water polo clubs in Australia
and have had some amazing growth and success in a short time. Drummoyne
have applied for a license for the Australian Mens National League and
part of my role is to ensure Drummoyne are ready to step up to national
league in 2009 when the club plans to apply to enter a team in the
Australian Womens National League competition.” “Dave Hudson has been responsible for the outstanding success of the Drummoyne womens water polo”, according to club President, Michael Hahn. “Dave has developed a player base primarily made up of juniors with some experienced senior players that provides the club with a solid base for Drummoyne to step up to 1st Grade. Dave identified a lot of these players in our Junior Development Program and coached them to a trifecta of titles in the under 14 age group, a double in the under 16s, and 4th placing in the Australian Under 18 club championships last season.
The club has gone through some massive growth and it’s
important that we provide our coaches with the appropriate support. We
are very fortunate to have someone as experienced as Ian on board”.
“It's great to see Australian water polo has continued to have success
in the international arena with the senior womens team ranked number 2
and the junior womens team winning the Junior World Championships in
Portugal earlier this month. The opportunity to play 1st grade with
Drummoyne against some of the best players in the world in a domestic
competition will be invaluable in the development of the Drummoyne
players,” according to Ian. |
