The gold medal winning team of Junior Women returned to Sydney this morning after their successful campaign in Portugal. More pictures.....

Here's what the water polo community thinks of the junior women's success:
A word from Ryan Moar:
Hi there everyone,
I am just writing to say thank-you for all of the support and encouragement for the team and staff that were at the Women’s Junior World Championships in Portugal.
A special victory was achieved by the team but that would not have been possible without the input of many people.
Unfortunately Bruce Falson was unable to travel with the team this year however his time spent with this generation of players over the last two and a half years, since the last World Championships in Perth, was a significant factor in the win. On tours and at training camps he helped this team develop into the best team in the World.
Aleks Osadchuk made a huge sacrifice to fill in for Bruce and co-coach the team with me. Flying from the World League Super Finals in Montreal, where he was with the National Team, he met the Juniors in Athens one week into our four week journey. His knowledge of water polo is phenomenal and he taught the girls much of what they used to go through the tournament undefeated. His tireless work analysing the opposition and teaching the team many tactics to break them apart strengthened our armour.
Julie Hamill, a World Champion Manager, kept the team together and also worked tirelessly for the whole trip. Her easy-going and supportive nature was a crucial part of our success.
Marilyn Webster volunteered as the team physiotherapist. She kept the girls in a physical state strong enough to beat any team in the World. She worked when most of us rested and treated every girl in the team like a daughter. Patrice O’Neill’s shoulder rehab stayed on track which meant she was able to compete in the tournament as a member of the team. Marilyn’s advice and support was golden.
Nicola Johnson, our referee for the whole trip was helpful, always on hand to help during the training camps and pre-Championships tournament and great support at the main event.
The team seemed to gel together particularly well in and out of the water. This meant that when it came to the crunch, and the pressure of a 4-4 game going into the last quarter of the final, they were able to break through the Chinese defence 3 times in just over a minute. The teamwork that went into every game, and especially the last quarter, was outstanding. The character that was shown to claw our way back from 2-4 down in the final was inspirational.
Assisting Bruce and then co-coaching with Aleks has been an awesome experience for me. Winning the World Junior Championships is an unbelievable icing on the cake!!!
Thanks again for all the support.
Please forward this email on to others who may be interested.
Moary.
