The NSW women extended their domination of the country scene with a 10-5 margin over Queensland while the Filipino men, competing by invitation, were too strong for the NSW men, winning 16-10 over a team, which generally collects the gold medal.
Queensland held off Western Australia for the men’s bronze in a tense 14-12 encounter and WA women won the bronze at home with an 11-4 score over the Australian Defence Force.

Filipinos look best despite draw with NSW at Country Champs

There seems to be a chink in the Philippines’ armour on the eve of the medal rounds of the Australian Country water polo championships here.
They will play and easily beat Western Australia in the semifinals but then face the winner of the New South Wales-Queensland encounter. That is likely to be NSW who hammered out a 9-all draw with the more fancied Filipinos in yesterday’s final day of preliminary matches. The strength of the team has been far too good for all teams during the week with the NSW encounter more of an aberration.
NSW women should spank WA in their semifinal clash while Queensland, a 20-3 winner over WA yesterday, could provide some strong opposition come the gold-medal final.
