Brisbane (April 13).— Sydney’s Wests is the front-runner for the national 14 years and under boys’ water polo championships being played in Brisbane.
It is the only unbeaten team of the two groups with seven straight wins and is closely followed by Perth’s Melville club with six wins in the race for the finals.
But the teams have yet to cross over against Group 2, which has four teams battling for the top two places.
New South Wales’ Cronulla and Alstonville are on 16 points each with Queensland Breakers and Perth’s City Beach on 14.
Competition is hot in the girls’ division, with Group 1 containing three teams within a point of the lead.
Sydney’s Drummoyne and Perth’s Melville are evenly balanced with 16 points and on equal points differential while Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is just one point adrift.
Group 2 sees Cronulla Blue two points clear of  NSW’s Flames.
The finals are on tomorrow.
