Well this was our best game of the tour so far with a lot of positives coming out of the match even though we lost 12-8.
5th game v USA Holiday Cup We started very well and were up early 2-0 which we maintained to half time to be leading 7-5. We lost Gemma Beadsworth mid 2nd quarter with 3 fouls and allowed some easy goals after we had worked hard to score which was disappointing. When Beadsworth had been fouled out it meant we were left with only 2 girls from the World Cup team as the 2 Knox's had been previously injured. This left us with a very inexperienced team and also a big player short, but provided opportunities for 4 of our junior team members to get valuable pool time. The 2nd half saw us go down 7-1 but the performance was not as bad as the score showed with us missing quite a few golden opportunities including a 4m and some individual brain explosions allowing some easy goals. Australia was best served by Kate Gynther & Nikita Cuffe who played her best game for Australia in a long time. Greg McFadden said "Overall a pleasing performance but we still need to have a lot more confidence in our own individual ability and hunger to score goals." "Once again our extra man statistics were poor but we did create some scoring options but poor finishing let us down" "We now play Canada for 3rd tomorrow".
