Another inconsistent performance resulted in a lucky 9-9 draw with Canada.
Los Angeles, USA (December 7).-
Queenslander Bronwen Knox has been ruled out of playing any further part in the Holiday Cup women's water polo tournament in Los Alamitos.
She had delayed concussion after receiving a knock during Australia's 9-all draw with Canada and spent part of the night in hospital.
It was a busy day for the team and the star player will be missed.
Australia lost to Russia 15-13 in the morning on the third day of the six-nation tournament before taking on Canada in the evening.
Both games were not up to the standard required of head coach Greg McFadden.
After the morning game he said:
"This was close to the worst game we have played since my reign as coach. Russia was under strength and we continually made poor decisions in both attack and defence, while also showing very little pride.
"Without Bronwen Knox and Gemma Beadsworth (who scored four goals apiece) the score would have been much more disappointing."
Australia trailed 4-3 at the quarter and leveled at 6-all by halftime, finally gaining the lead at 13-12 less than five minutes from full time.
However, three unanswered goals by Russia proved too much for Australia.
Australia could only convert two from 10 on extra plus one penalty while Russia scored four from six and two penalty goals.
Victoria Brown made nine saves in goal for Australia.
Against Canada he was equally scathing.
"It was an improvement on this morning's game but lack of personal responsibility in defence is a worry.
"Throughout the game we would look in control of the situation and ready to put Canada to the sword but poor finishing through passing and shooting options would let them off the hook in our attack.
"Then after scoring some nice goals we would give up a couple of easy goals and be chasing," he said.
Australia was 5-3 ahead in the second quarter before hitting the turn at 6-5 down.
This became 9-all in the third and could have been a loss but for a save 15 seconds from full time by goalkeeper Emma Knox. Jenna Santoromito, Kate Gynther, Emma Knox and Beadsworth were the standout players in a match where the Aussies could not score on seven extra-man attacks. Australia plays the Netherlands tomorrow.

3rd game v Canada
Holiday Cup
Throughout the game we would look in control of the situation and ready to put Canada to the sword but poor finishing through passing and shooting options would let them of the hook in our attack.
Then after scoring some nice goals we would give up a couple of easy goals and be chasing.
We started fairly well but could only manage to be 3-3 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Two quick goals saw us looking like we were back on track but poor defence allowed them the next 3 goals.
The 2nd half was goal for goal with us levelling the game at 9-9 with 36 secs left.
However soft centre back defence allowed the Canadians three centre forward goals throughout the game and with 15 seconds to go was nearly our undoing once again except for a good save from Emma Knox.
Australia was best served by Jenna Santoromito, Kate Gynther, Emma Knox & Gemma Beadsworth.
Greg McFadden said "An improvement on this morning's game but lack of personal responsibility in defence is a worry.
We also need to work on our extra attack as this was diabolical. Our next game against the Netherlands will hopefully see improvement in these areas.
Bronwen Knox had delayed concussion after receiving a knock during the game and spent part of the night in hospital and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.
She however is recovering well at present.
