Guam made a great start to the Australian Masters Championship by winning their opening games on first day of the event on the Gold Coast

Some of the best water polo seen at a National Championship in recent times was on display at the opening day of the National Masters Championship.

In the first game of the day, Brisbane Barracudas went goal for goal with the Gold Coast Chargers in Group 1 (35-45+) to outlast their opposition and post a victory 13-10 with Lance Johnson scoring 8 goals.

Guam showed their superiority in the second game in this group to beat Manly 11-6 with an even contribution from all players.

In Game 1 of Group 2 (50+) Guam masters opened their account with a convincing win over Gold Coast 11-5.

The last game of the day saw Parramatta Eels easily deal with Gooleys (pronounced Gooolays) 11 goals to 3 with Russell Goff starring for the Eels with 4 goals with Terry Dorahy putting 3 goals into the net.

Festivities resume Saturday at 9:30 am.............

Game 2- 2:15 pm
Guam 11 (N Jordan 3, M Lewis, P Holmes 2, G Dyball, P Stevens, C Thompson, G Hartkkopf, 1) defeated Manly 6 (D Webb, J Brook 2, S Murray, S Phillips 1)

GROUP 2 (50+)

Game 1 -3:30 pm
Guam Masters 11 (B Wike, J Medcalf 3, G Mansell 2, D Drown, G Burke, P Holmes 1) defeated Gold Coast 5 (C Robinson 3, M Edwards, B Little 1)

Game 2 -4.45 pm
Parramatta Eels 11 (R Goff, T Gorahy 4, O Wayman, M Myers, P Twinings 1) defeated Gooleys 3 ( B Johnson 2, P Ziebel 1)
